The
Importance Of Pet Grooming
When grooming your dog, it is important for you to be firm
but gentle at the same time. Being firm with your dog does not mean
being harsh, but to let the dog know who the leader of the pack is.
Most dogs respond to simple commands such as sit and stay.
Pet
grooming is important because it reduces your allergies, while keeping
your pet clean and dander-free. This is particularly important during
winter and fall season, when you and your pet spend more time at home
or other closed environments.
With
frequent pet grooming, you will be able to remove dead hair, making
your pet look better because only health hairs are left behind. It also
reduces any odor, improve air circulation to achieve better coat and
keep lice away from your pet. Grooming your pet can stimulate blood
flow and lymphatic system, proving your pet with healthier coat and
overall health.
Aside from
physical benefits that are achieved from pet grooming, you and your pet
will also create a special bond because of physical interaction.
Because of this, your pet will be more comfortable in your hands, while
providing him or her with needed emotional support. In addition, you
will get to know your pet, allowing you to know what areas he or she
dislikes or likes to be touched. Also, you will examine whether your
pet has a health problem when he or she flinches when you touch a
certain area.
The most
important benefit of grooming your pet is that you can spot health
problems, such as skin disease, hair loss, lumps and other problems not
visible to the naked eye. You can also examine if your pet has mites,
fleas, ticks or worms – all of which can become deadly when left
untreated.
Four Basic
Pet Grooming Tips
When you
have no idea how to perform pet grooming, you can follow these four
easy steps to prevent potential sickness for both you and your pet. The
most important procedure in grooming a pet is to shampoo him or her
regularly to cleanse the skin and hair, removing unwanted allergens and
dander. This will ensure an allergy-free environment for you and your
family.
Make sure
to use a specially formulated shampoo for pets because animals have
different skins than people and using your shampoo may irritate your
pet’s skin. Also, make sure to use a conditioner every time you shampoo
your pet. This will reduce allergen accumulation on your pet’s coat.
You should
use some kind of conditioning spray to keep tangles off and reduce
possible build-up of allergens. Lastly, ensure that you brush or comb
your pet regularly. This will help in air circulation, keeping your pet
free from allergens and dander.
Routine
pet grooming serves three major purposes: First, it keeps your
dog's skin, coat, teeth, gums, and nails in a healthy state.
Second, it helps you detect any signs or symptoms of problems or
abnormalities. Third, grooming allows you to spend quality time
with your pet which helps create a special bond between you and your
dog. It is therefore important to establish a daily or weekly
grooming ritual that both you and your dog can enjoy. If your dog
refuses to be groomed, command him to sit and stay. In addition,
grooming should always involve a reward for your dog
